エアトレックの後継として2005年10月に登場したアウトランダーは、新開発の技術が惜しみなく投入された三菱渾身の一台。プラットフォームや2.4LのMIVECエンジン、そしてミッション（6速スポーツモードCVT）までもが新開発。さらにアルミルーフパネルやモノチューブ式リアショックアブソーバーなど、三菱の走りの頂点である「ランサーエボリューション」で培った技術を採用することで、従来のSUVの枠を超えた「胸のすく走り」を実現しています。<br />

実用面に関しても、上下2分割に開閉するテールゲートを採用したほか、荷室壁面にあるスイッチでセカンドシートが折りたためるワンタッチタンブル機構を備えるなど、SUVとしての使い勝手にも優れた、実にハイレベルな一台です。

<p>では実際に販売されている車はどうなのか。お邪魔したのは福岡県の大穂自動車。2006年式の2.4G、走行3.4万km、修復歴なしの物件です。新車時価格267万円の2.4Gですが、このスペックで153万円はずいぶん安いと、さっそくお店の人にそのカラクリを直撃。<br />
<br />
「この物件はレンタカーアップ車なんですよ。レンタアップ車は普通の物件に比べると安く仕入れられるので、店頭でも10万～15万円程度安く売ることができるんです」。レンタカーアップとなれば、不特定多数の人間が乗っていたのは事実。でも整備は普通の車より徹底的に行われているし、使用後には車内清掃も行うので車内もキレイ。それが安く買えると考えれば、レンタアップ車ってオトクかも。<br />
<br />
「もう一つはボディカラーですね。シルバーって普通に考えれば人気色なんですが、アウトランダーに限って言えば、パールホワイトかブラックが人気色なんです。シルバーは不人気とまでは言わないけれど、それらに比べれば安いんですよ」<br />
<br />
価格の秘密を聞いたところで実車チェック！レンタアップ車となれば、気になるのは外装回り。運転のレベルにバラつきのある人が多く運転するレンタカーでは、ホイールのガリキズはもはや定番ですからね。雨だったので念入りにチェックするも、ホイールキズはもちろん、ボディにもその類は見当たらず。すると「コンパクトクラスなら別ですが、このクラスになると使われ方が違うのか、あまりキズなどはないですね」とのこと。レンタアップ車なら多少のキズは覚悟の上と思っていただけに、これは嬉しいポイント。<br />
<br />
この物件は車検なしなのですが、車検整備は料金は別ながら（6万900円）、通常の24カ月点検のほかに、エンジンオイルとエレメント、エアクリーナー、ワイパーゴム、バッテリーの交換が含まれるのも嬉しい限り。<br />
<br />
そして驚くのは保証面。新車保証も継承できますが（1万3800円）、追加で付けることができるTAXゴールド保証（2万6250円）はかなり太っ腹な保証内容なんです。1年2万kmの保証が付くだけでなく、次の車検までオイル交換が無料なんです。<br />
つまり保証が切れたあとの1年間もタダでオイル交換できるってワケです。安く購入できて、なおかつその後の維持費も安く済むなんて、これはかなりのお買い得物件じゃないでしょうか!?</p>

一方装備面も優秀で、フルオートエアコンはただのフルオートというだけでなく、低騒音化ならびに省電力化を実現し、2月から4月にかけて鼻と目を悩ませている人も多いであろう顔回りの花粉を素早く減少させることができる花粉除去モードも搭載しています。おまけにイオンの効果で車内の空気をリフレッシュするプラズマクラスターも付いているというから驚きです。<br />

さて、これだけ優れた車でありながら、冒頭でお伝えしたとおり、なぜか現行型のイストは安く売られています。例えば、2007年式の150G 4WD。これの走行1.0万km、修復歴なしの物件（なおかつディーラー車）が、98万円で売られています。新車価格は199.5万円なので、すでに半額以下です。<br />
<br />
ここまでオトクな物件はなかなか見つからないでしょうが、100万円を切りそうな物件もチラホラ出てきています。“トヨタの中古車は高い”というイメージをおもちのみなさん、実はイストは狙い目の一台なんですよ。<br />
