正確には、スバルの初ミニバンは、オペル・ザフィーラを日本市場用にセッティングし直して販売していたトラヴィックです。が、一から設計したミニバンとしては、このエクシーガが初となります。<!-- short sentence end --><br />
写真ではわかりにくいのですが、レガシィを一回り大きくしたボディに大人7人が座れる空間を確保しています。サイズを比較してみると<br />
レガシィ2.0GT:全長4680mm×全幅1730mm ×全高1470mm<br />
エクシーガ2.0GT:全長4740mm×全幅1775mm ×全高1660mm<br />
確かに大きいですね。<br /><br />
さて、まずは2.0GTの3列目シートに乗ってみました。<br />
はっきり言って3列目がこれほどいいとは思わなかったです。シアターレイアウト（1列目より70mm高い2列目、2列目よりさらに70mm高い3列目）のおかげで、前方に開放感があります。横の窓も縦方向に大きいので窮屈感がありません。<br />
加えて乗り心地がいい。足をたっぷりと使って走っている感じが、3列目に座っていてもわかります。段差での突き上げは、軽くいなしてくれます。<br />
シートも、背もたれが肩に届きそうなくらいの高さがあり、座面もたっぷりとしていて、これなら大人でも長距離の移動が楽なはず。前の2列目シートを一番後ろまでスライドさせて、ようやく膝にあたるほど前後に余裕があります。また2列目＆3列目とも、足元を前席の下にもぐりこませられます。<br />
乗り心地の良さは、続いて乗った2L自然吸気2.0i-S FFモデルの3列目でも同じでした。4WDがない分のボディの軽さは、3列目でも感じられるほど。<br />

3台目の試乗車は2.0i-Sの4WDモデル。ハンドルを握ってみましたが、これも先ほどの2台同様、乗り心地は実にしなやか。ただし4WDの重さを感じ、ついアクセルを踏み増したくなる場面もあります。また、2.0GT以外は4速ATのため、あともう1段欲しいと感じることも。<br /><br />
最後に2.0i-Lの2WDモデルに試乗。これも運転しましたが、乗り心地はこれまでの3台のほうがいい。先ほどの3台にはなかった、ゴツゴツ感が感じられるのです。何が違うかというと、先ほどまでの3台はいずれも17インチタイヤなのに対し、2.0i-Lは16インチを履くという点。17インチモデルのほうがベストな乗り心地です。<br />

3列目シートからの乗り降りは、ワンタッチで2列目シートの背もたれが倒れ、前方向に押してやるとスライドします。ちょうど「よっこらしょ」と何かをつかみたい位置にグリップも備わります。<br />
ですから乗降性に問題はまったくありませんが、あえて「なぜスライドドアにしなかったのか」同社の技術者の方に聞いてみました。<br />
「スライドドアにすると150kgは重くなってしまい、燃費にも走りにも影響してしまいます（スバルの技術者）」
フォレスター（2.0XTで車両重量が1480kg）と同じターボチャージャーエンジンを、低速域からでもトルクが出るよう改良したのに、これ以上重くしたら（エクシーガは2.0GTで1590kg）意味がないということのようです。<br />

2列目＆3列目シートは、倒してもきっちりと水平のラゲージにはなりませんが、それだけシートの座り心地にこだわったとも言い換えられます。個人的には、乗用車型ミニバンとしては最高レベルの3列目シートの乗り心地を感じました（M・ベンツのRクラスとかは別）が、さて本当にそうなのか？<br />
近々、そのあたりをじっくりとライバル車対決で明らかにしたいと思います。<br /><br />

<p>第10位はBMW Z3ロードスター(絶版)。2シーターオープンカーは、セカンドカーとして選ぶに最もふさわしいカテゴリーでしょう。2人しか乗れませんし、荷物もちょっとしか積めません。実用性よりも、車を楽しむ“濃度"を重視しているからです。なかでもZ3をオススメするのは、その安さからです。かつてのボンドカーも50万円くらいから探せるんですから、今となっては相当にリーズナブル。あとは普段使いの車を何にするのか、ですね。“真逆"な性格がいいのでは?</p>
<p>第9位はランドローバーディスカバリー(旧型)。オフロードを楽しむもよし、アウトドア用品をたくさん積み込んで、家族や友人と出かけるもよし。これ一台ですべての用途に事足りるのはわかっていますが、あえて超実用セカンドカーとしてオススメします。あらゆる意味で強い車ですから、ラフに使うとカッコいいです。平日はコンパクトカー、休日はディスカバリーって組み合わせ、オシャレじゃないですか? この組み合わせなら、燃費で懐を痛める心配も軽減されますし。</p>
<p>第8位はダイハツミゼットII(絶版)。ミゼットIIは一人乗りのノスタルジックカーです。“復刻版"なので、デザインはオリジナルをベースに進化しています。友達との集まりにミゼットIIで登場したら、相当ウケることでしょう。ミゼットIIで旅に出て、ミゼットIIのある風景写真を撮っても楽しいかもしれません。ちょっと人間関係に疲れた人に、オススメしたいユニークなパートナーです。本来、複数で乗れる車に1人でしか乗れない不便さは、これでしか味わえません。</p>
<p>第7位はスズキキャリートラック(旧型)。商用軽トラックをどのように使うかは、乗る人の想像力次第でしょう。サーフボードを積んでも、BBQセットを積んでも、キャンプに出かけても、マウンテンバイクを積んでも、何をしても“意外性"が似合うと思います。商用軽トラックを遊びや趣味に使うんですから。しかも運転すると、面白いほどワクワクするんです。普段、商用軽トラックなんて運転しないじゃないですか。走りがいいというわけではなく、冒険心を味わえます。</p>
<p>第6位はジャガーXJ(旧型)。一般的に大型高級セダン、特に輸入車は経過年数とともに中古車相場は大幅に下落します。現在、XJは50万円ほどから十分狙えるんです。平日は実用性重視の国産ミニバン、休日はちょっとエレガントにXJってカッコいいと思います。しかもXJの不思議な魅力は、たとえ古くなっても安っぽく見えないところです。言葉で表現しにくいのですが、高級車のオーラが色褪せません。休日のデートをエレガントに演出するパートナーにもってこい、です。<br>
