RX-8のデビューは2003年5月。約5年後となる2008年3月に、初めてのマイナーチェンジが行われました。国産車のモデルライフとしてはなかり長めといえるスパン。そのぶん改良が進んでおり、このマイナーチェンジで初めて追加されたタイプRSも、その恩恵を大いにこうむっています。<br />

まずエンジンは、新型のウォーターポンプやオイルポンプを採用。同時にMTモデルのギア比が見直され、低中速域での加速感が向上しました。ちなみにATモデルは、Dレンジ走行中にMTモードに切り替えなくてもステアリングスイッチで任意のギアを選択できる、新開発のダイレクトモードが搭載されています。<br />

また足回りなどが強化されたことによって、運転操作性が向上。ダンパーやコイルスプリング、スタビライザーの特性を最適化したほか、ボディフロント部分のねじれ剛性の向上やコーナー形状の適正化、空力特性の改善も行われました。乗り心地面などにも配慮がなされ、目立たない部分の熟成も進められています。<br />

こういった改良が施された後期型RX-8に、スポーティな装備を追加したトップグレードがタイプRS。654ccの2ローターNAエンジンを搭載し、ミッションはマツダが内製した6MTのみの設定です。最高出力235psを発揮するタイプSがベースとなっており、これより21万円高い315万円という新車価格が設定されています。<br />

原稿執筆時点でカーセンサーnetに掲載されているRX-8 タイプRSの台数はわずか5台。現行モデルの最新グレードですから、いずれも1万km以下の未修復歴車とはいえ、当然価格はかなり高めです。新車価格とさほど変わらない、300万円オーバーの物件も1台存在するほど。<br />

しかし、255万円という比較的手頃なものもあります。この物件はメーカー純正のHDDナビゲーションに、BOSEのサウンドシステムが装着されているほか、5年間有効のコーティングも施されています。このほかにもETCなどを装備する物件が多く、オプションを含んだトータルでの価格を考えると、新車に比べてかなりお得な中古車が多いのが特徴です。<br />

オフロード走行を行っていると下回りなどのキズが予想されるし、海や雪山を走っていたならボディにサビが浮いている場合もあるので注意。荷物の積み降ろしが頻繁に行われたことも考慮し、ルーフやラゲージもキズやヘタリを確認しておこう。<br />現状、大きなリコールは出ていないが、2008年11月から12月にかけて製造された車両の一部がサービスキャンペーンの対象。これは2010年度燃費基準に関するステッカーの貼付ミスで、達成車に別のステッカーが貼られていることもあるという。対象車両の場合は、念のためチェックしよう。</div>

<h6>探しやすいのは、流通量が最も豊富な<br />20Xの2008年式</h6>
全体的に流通量はそれほど多くないが、その中で比較的探しやすいのは2008年式だ。相場の上限は270万円と高いが、これはクリーンディーゼルによって引き上げられたもの。<br />ガソリン車の高額物件は240万円台で収まっているので、2007年式との差は小さい。グレード別では、全年式で流通量の多い20XのCVT車が探しやすいだろう。2.5L車とディーゼル車はいずれも全体の1割以下と少なく、探すには根気が必要だ。<br />予算にこだわらないなら、2009年式が狙い目。流通量はあまり多くないが、低走行距離の物件が豊富だ。</div>
