2002年式Xタイプ同様、02年式のSタイプも大きく値を下げた1年だった。4LのV8ではなく3LV6限定の話だが、260万円前後で2年ほど停滞していた相場が、この1年で40%以上急激に動いたのだ。また、やや古い00年式で構わなければ80万円前後の物件も多数流通している。

アイの未来的なフォルムは何もデザイン重視だからではありません。同社のコンパクトカー、コルトより長い2550mmというホイールベースは、直進安定性や乗り心地などに寄与します。<br />
また、エンジンを後輪の車軸の前に置くという、軽自動車では大変珍しいリアミッドシップレイアウトは、前方の衝突安全性を高めるとともに運動性能を高めます。さらにこれだけ個性的なデザインの割に、広々とした室内を確保できたのも、このリアミッドシップレイアウトの恩恵です。<br />
そのアイが登場したのは2006年1月。そして今回ご紹介する「プレイエディション」は同年5月にリリースされました。<br />

最大の特徴は、iPod nano（2005年に登場した第一世代）とHDDカーナビゲーションを標準装備していることです。<br /><br />
ベースグレードはM。インパネにiPod nanoをきれいに収める専用スロットルが備わります。置き場所とか、接続コードなどを気にする必要はないのです。あとはHDDカーナビゲーションのタッチパネルを操作するだけで簡単にiPod nanoから音楽を楽しめます。<br />
さらに成約者にはアイのロゴ入りiPod nanoがプレゼントされました。つまり標準装備みたいなものです。<br /><br />
スピーカーは標準のフロント＆フロントツイーターに加え、リアにも追加されます。計6つのスピーカーがiPod nanoの音楽を奏でてくれます。ボディカラーはiPod nanoに合わせたホワイトとブラックのラインナップ。シート地はグレーとレッドのどちらでも選べるようになっていました。<br />

エンジンは660ccの直3ターボ。新車時価格は2WDが158万5500円、4WDが171万1500円。ホワイトボディはプラス2万1000円でした。これはベースのMに対し、19万9500円高という設定。目標販売台数は3000台でした。<br />

原稿執筆時点では5台（うち1台が4WD）見つかりました。70万円からと、新車時の半額程度で探せます。<br /><br />

<h5>排ガス性能に優れた2種類のエンジン＋4ATの組み合わせ</h5>
搭載エンジンは1Lと1.3Lの2種類あり、前者が直列3気筒、後者が直列4気筒。いずれもダイハツ製で、1Lは最新のアルミブロックエンジンだ。触媒には自己再生機能をもつインテリジェント触媒が採用され、平成17年排出ガス基準75％低減レベル（星4つ）を獲得。ミッションは全車コラム方式の4ATで、1L搭載車にのみビスカスカップリング方式の4WDモデルが設定されている。</div>

<h5>かわいいだけではないタフさをもつ外観と、洗練された内装</h5>
外観デザインのコンセプトは「イカツかわいい」。女性に媚びたかわいさだけを狙うのではなく、走りの良さを感じさせる「いかつさ」をスパイスに加え、サイズを超えた存在感をアピールするのが狙いだ。内装のキーワードは「シンプル＆クリーン」。スピードメーターはステアリングコラムに取り付けられており、チルト調整しても視認性が維持できるよう配慮されている。</div>

<h4>DRIVING IMPRESSION<span>ドライブフィール</span></h4>
<h5>走りの楽しさよりも運転しやすさを重視した設定</h5>
ドライブフィールは、いかにも女性の街乗りを意識したという設定。ステアリングの剛性感や操舵応答性はマイルドな方向に徹しており、積極的に走りを楽しむタイプの車ではない。動力性能は1L搭載車でも不満を覚えることはないが、アイドリング時の振動が若干気になる。1.3Lのレーシーには専用サスペンションチューンが施されるほか、前後スタビライザーも追加されている。</div>
