5ナンバーサイズに2.5Lと3Lの直6エンジンを搭載し、内装にはウッドや本革を用いたまさに「小さな高級車」。1998年5月のデビュー当初から、運転席／助手席エアバッグ、サイドカーテンエアバッグ、ABS、ESC（トヨタではVSCと表記）など、全グレードに標準装備。従ってプログレの場合は中古車相場やグレードにかかわらず、どれを選んでも今回の基準をクリアする。

ベースモデルには3.5Lエンジンを搭載。SH-AWDモデルにはアキュラブランドのトップモデルであるRL(日本ではレジェンド)に使用している3.7Lエンジンを積み、305psのパワーを生み出します。このことにより、アキュラのラインナップの中でも最もパワフルなエンジンを搭載したモデルとなりました。<br />
インテリアのクォリティやデザインは前モデルよりも上質に見えます。これだけのパフォーマンスと質感を備えてしまうと、現RL(レジェンド)と格差がつかなくなってしまうくらいです。後部座席のスペースは決してゆったりとしているとは言えませんが、競合するヨーロッパ車のセダンと比べると快適だと思います。先代モデルはヨーロッパ寄りのデザインだったことから、大胆にイメチェンを施した新型アキュラTLは、キャデラックCTSなどを好むアメ車好き向けに仕上がっているかもしれません。<br /><br />

3.7Lのパワフルなエンジンに5ATのミッション、パドルシフトも装備されていますが、やはりスポーティ感を出すのには6AT、もしくは7ATくらいは欲しいと感じます。オプションでハイパフォーマンスタイヤを選ぶとMichelin Pilot Sport S2タイヤに19インチのホイールが装備されルックスに豪快さが増します。<br />
ホンダブランドとしては、景気が回復するまでは当面ハイブリッド車をプッシュするのだろうと予想されるなか、新型TLはアキュラブランドで今後もV8エンジンや次期NSXの開発・発表をしていくのではないかという期待を抱かせてくれる内容に仕上がっています。<br /><br />

<p>第10位はホンダS2000(現行)。MTしか設定されていないので、MTで楽しむしかありません。ショートストロークは絶品で、手首の動きだけでシフトチェンジができるほどです。デュアルクラッチ式のシーケンシャルトランスミッションがここまで進化した昨今、セミATを搭載しても人気が出そうなものですが利益が生まれるほどの販売台数が見込めないのかもしれません。100万円台半ばでそこそこのモノが狙える今、買っておきたい車です。MTで操ってこその一体感が味わえます。</p>
<p>第9位はホンダフィット(旧型)。どのくらい売れたのかわかりませんが、スポーティグレードの「RS」にはMTが設定されていました。現行モデルでもラインナップされていますが、お買い得感から言えば旧型がオススメです。コンパクトカーといえば街乗りの移動手段としての役割が強いですが、ちゃんと走りを満喫したい人のために用意されたモデルなのかもしれません。ホットハッチといえば輸入車が強いのですが、ちゃんと対抗馬を用意するのが国産メーカーの隙のなさです。</p>
<p>第8位は三菱ランサーエボリューション(旧型)。100万円台で狙えてしまう“ジャパニーズモンスターマシン”と呼んでもいいでしょう。旧型にはATが用意されたこともありますし、現行モデルではセミATが注目を集めています。それでもあえて旧型のMTをオススメするのは、そのモンスターぶりを自分で“操っている感”たっぷりに味わえるからです。しかもシフトストロークが短く、気持ちいいんです。MTに関しては国産メーカーを超える気持ち良さはないかもしれません。</p>

<p>第7位はマツダロードスター(旧型)。現行モデルのATは大変優れています。変速スピードも速いし、MTと比べて遜色ないと評判です。だからこそ旧型のMTをオススメします。100万円以下でも狙えるというのも理由の一つです。純粋にサーキットのラップタイムを競うのであればシーケンシャルトランスミッションのようなセミATが一番でしょうが、公道では運転する楽しさや気持ち良さを味わいましょう。車の挙動変化、シフトチェンジの醍醐味を制覇すれば、奥ゆかしい味わいに触れられます。</p>
<p>第6位はスバルレガシィB4(現行)。セダンで、スポーティで、なおかつMTで楽しめるレガシィB4。スポーティさと快適性をバランスさせるため、足回りは意外にソフト。わかりやすい挙動変化なのでワインディングでも安全かつスポーティに楽しめます。MTをオススメするのは、あえて楽をしない選択肢に豊かなカーライフの妙味を感じさせてくれるからです。ATが主流になりつつある昨今、女性がMTを颯爽と操っているだけで萌えてしまいます。ぜひ家族で乗ってほしい一台です。</p>
