↑もうすぐ発売予定のアクセラ。今回はセダンに試乗。i-stopが静かに感じるのはアクセラ自体の静粛性が高いことも一因か（左）ハッチバックのリアスタイル（中）マルチインフォメーションディスプレイが用意されていて、ここでエコ感覚を表示。アイドリングストップ約8.4時間で一本という計算で、木が育っていく（右）

<!-- short sentence start -->エコなだけでなく、燃費向上にも役立つアイドリングストップ。にもかかわらず、日本では思ったほど普及していません。それに足並みを揃えるかのように、自動的にアイドリングストップする機構を備えている乗用車は、国産車ではトヨタヴィッツとダイハツミラのみでした。そこにようやく、マツダが参入することになりました。もうすぐ発売される予定のアクセラに、アイドリングストップ機構「i-stop」を備えたモデルを投入するのです。<!-- short sentence end --><br />
それも、従来のアイドリングストップに比べてエンジン始動時間を半分の0.35秒に短縮したと言います。今回、それを搭載したモデルに試乗することができました。<br />

始動時間が短いことは、例えば大きな交差点での右折時に道の途中まで進んで停止し、流れが切れたので進もうとする場合などで非常に有効です。<br />

始動時間が短いだけでなく、同乗しているだけではいつエンジンが止まって、いつ動き出したのかわからないほど、静粛性が高く振動も少ないというのがi-stopの大きな特徴（新型アクセラの静粛性が高いというのもあるようです）。<br />運転に特別なコツは必要ありません。ブレーキを踏んで一定速度以下になればエンジンが止まり、ブレーキペダルからちょっと足の力を抜いた程度でエンジンが再スタートします。<br />
ちなみに「SISS」とは、2007年の東京モーターショー時にマツダが展示した「スマートアイドルストップシステム」の略です。

動画は、運転席の肩付近にカメラを置いて手で固定しています。始動時に、ほんのちょっとだけ振動で画面が揺れますから、気づかなかった方は今一度見てみてください。<br />

この始動時間の短さを可能としたのは、非常にざっくりと言ってしまうと、従来が再始動時にスターターモーターを使ってエンジンを回してから燃焼を始めるのに対し、i-stopは最初からエンジンを燃焼させるという方法を取ったことにあります。それには、まず直噴エンジンが大前提。あとはシリンダーの位置の認識や燃焼室内の空気量確保をコントロールすることなどでi-stopは成り立っています。下記の動画は、i-stopをエンジンの模型で表したものです。<br />

さらにi-stopは、室内が暑すぎて（あるいは寒すぎて）エアコンをガンガンに利かせているような時には、作動しません。エンジンを止めたままエアコンを使うとバッテリーに負担がかかるからです。そのほかドアが開いていたりドライバーがシートベルトをはずしていたりなど、安全ではないと判断したときも作動しないようになっています。またオーナー自身がi-stopをキャンセルすることも可能です。<br />
<br />
i-stopは新型アクセラ以降、順次2L直噴エンジン搭載車に導入される予定です。まずは夏のアクセラに注目しましょう。<br />

<p>第4位はVWニュービートル(現行)。可愛らしいデザインのクーペながら大人5名がちゃんと座れて、荷物だってそこそこに積めます。ルックスだけと侮る人もいるでしょうが、ゴルフと共有しているプラットフォームのおかげか、意外なほど実力派です。特に高速道路での安定性は、“さすがアウトバーン育ち"といわしめてくれます。最近は何かと“可愛い"系がウケる時代です。ニュービートルが相棒なら、周囲からの反応も抜群に良いでしょう。しかも100万円以下から探せるんです。</p>
<p>第3位はポルシェボクスター(旧型)。オープン2シーターを満喫できるのは、若い頃の特権かもしれません。というのも、ドライブや走りを楽しむためだけの贅沢な車だからです。荷物は必要最低限しか積めませんし、2シーターであることは実用面で不利。お金持ちになれば複数所有で家族持ちでもOKなのですが･･･。だからこそ、新社会人のうちに狙っておきたい車なのです。100万円台前半から狙えますから、上司や周囲へは安い買い物だったことを強調すれば嫉妬もされないでしょう。</p>
<p>第2位はVWパサートワゴン(絶版)。特にV6 4モーション、またはW8 4モーションがオススメです。4WDは鬼のような直進安定性をもたらしますしV6、W8エンジンは文句なしにパワフルです。フツーのモデルに比べて両車、シートに本革があしらわれゴージャス感を演出。ステーションワゴンならではの実用性を兼ね備えながら、スポーツカーさながらの走りまで満喫できます。新社会人ならずとも、アクティブに遊ぶ人にはうってつけ。しかもツウっぽい選択です。100万円台は買いです。</p>
<p>第1位はM・ベンツSL(旧型)。かつての最高峰オープン2シーターですから、メンテナンスにはそれなりのコストがかかります。とはいってもインターネットが普及した昨今、海外の通販を利用すればパーツ代は抑えられます。一般的にM・ベンツはちょっと古くなると安くなり、結構古くなると“ネオクラシックカー"としての価値が出て高くなります。100万円台で狙えるSLは、今のうちだけかもしれません。新社会人のうちに買って、ずっと乗り続けられたらカッコいいと思います。<br>
