ボンゴフレンディといえば、それはイコール、オートフリートップ（AFT）だよな。ちなみにこのAFTというのは、フレンディの生産途中から追加された電動のポップアップ式ルーフのこと。アクセスホールと呼ばれる穴から、ポップアップで出現する、新しい部屋に出入りできるのが子供にウケて、それが当時は大人気になったのでした。フレンディというよりも、AFTが傑作だったね。<br />

なんか、こんなクルマもあったよなあ～というくらいの記憶しかありません。それまでのバネットラルゴから、1993年にフルモデルチェンジによって正式にラルゴとして独り立ち。日産の最上級ミニバンとして高い人気を博したはずなのだけれど、普通のミニバンだった印象が薄かった。でも大きなターニングポイントはエアロパーツを装着したハイウェイスターの設定！と半ば強引に結論づけて、傑作の称号を与えましょう。<br />

車内で×××をしろっ、つ～んかいっ（×には適当な文字を入れてほしいのですが）。ともあれ、このS-MXが発表された時に、私自身はそう思いました。シートをフルフラットにすると、ちょうど手の届くあたりに、箱ティッシュの置けるスペースもあるし、フロントシートにもベンチタイプが採用されていたのだもの。そのムフフな性格とともに、右1枚の左2枚の1＋2ドアの採用など、個人的には、傑作車と考えたい一台です。<br />

そういえば、昔流行ったよな、ネイキッドバイク…。あっ、違いますね、ここでいうのは、ダイハツネイキッドね。当時カスタマー自身が、様々なアレンジをすることで、好みの一台を作りましょうというコンセプトは斬新だったけれど、何で自分の手を汚さなければならないのか。それはオマエら自動車メーカーの仕事だろ！というわけで、2003年にはヒッソリと生産を中止。後継車もありません。典型的なマグレ当たりでしたな。<br />

ファンカーゴは、初代のヴィッツをベースとした、コンパクトなハイルーフワゴン。参考までに、実質的な後継車はラクティス。その存在からも証明されるように、確実な市場を築いたという意味では、このファンカーゴには傑作の称号を与えても良いのではないかと思います。実際の使い勝手は、さすがにその道を研究し尽くしたトヨタの力作。リアシートの格納は簡単で、それによって生まれる荷室はとても実用的でした。<br />

乗った瞬間、自分が年を取ったように思いましたよ。5ナンバーサイズの小さな高級車というコンセプトは良かったのですけれど、その演出は、ちょっと間違っていたかも。だいたい、このプログレ、どこを見てもトヨタのエンブレムがないから、どこのクルマかわからないし…。メルセデスやBMWと正面から戦うのに、メーカーのエンブレムがなくてどうするよ…と思ったのが懐かしい。傑作とはちょっと言えませんな。<br />

ボンゴフレンディといえば、それはイコール、オートフリートップ（AFT）だよな。ちなみにこのAFTというのは、フレンディの生産途中から追加された電動のポップアップ式ルーフのこと。アクセスホールと呼ばれる穴から、ポップアップで出現する、新しい部屋に出入りできるのが子供にウケて、それが当時は大人気になったのでした。フレンディというよりも、AFTが傑作だったね。<br />

なんか、こんなクルマもあったよなあ～というくらいの記憶しかありません。それまでのバネットラルゴから、1993年にフルモデルチェンジによって正式にラルゴとして独り立ち。日産の最上級ミニバンとして高い人気を博したはずなのだけれど、普通のミニバンだった印象が薄かった。でも大きなターニングポイントはエアロパーツを装着したハイウェイスターの設定！と半ば強引に結論づけて、傑作の称号を与えましょう。<br />

車内で×××をしろっ、つ～んかいっ（×には適当な文字を入れてほしいのですが）。ともあれ、このS-MXが発表された時に、私自身はそう思いました。シートをフルフラットにすると、ちょうど手の届くあたりに、箱ティッシュの置けるスペースもあるし、フロントシートにもベンチタイプが採用されていたのだもの。そのムフフな性格とともに、右1枚の左2枚の1＋2ドアの採用など、個人的には、傑作車と考えたい一台です。<br />

そういえば、昔流行ったよな、ネイキッドバイク…。あっ、違いますね、ここでいうのは、ダイハツネイキッドね。当時カスタマー自身が、様々なアレンジをすることで、好みの一台を作りましょうというコンセプトは斬新だったけれど、何で自分の手を汚さなければならないのか。それはオマエら自動車メーカーの仕事だろ！というわけで、2003年にはヒッソリと生産を中止。後継車もありません。典型的なマグレ当たりでしたな。<br />

ファンカーゴは、初代のヴィッツをベースとした、コンパクトなハイルーフワゴン。参考までに、実質的な後継車はラクティス。その存在からも証明されるように、確実な市場を築いたという意味では、このファンカーゴには傑作の称号を与えても良いのではないかと思います。実際の使い勝手は、さすがにその道を研究し尽くしたトヨタの力作。リアシートの格納は簡単で、それによって生まれる荷室はとても実用的でした。<br />

乗った瞬間、自分が年を取ったように思いましたよ。5ナンバーサイズの小さな高級車というコンセプトは良かったのですけれど、その演出は、ちょっと間違っていたかも。だいたい、このプログレ、どこを見てもトヨタのエンブレムがないから、どこのクルマかわからないし…。メルセデスやBMWと正面から戦うのに、メーカーのエンブレムがなくてどうするよ…と思ったのが懐かしい。傑作とはちょっと言えませんな。<br />

ジョン・クーパーのことを知らなくても「クーパー」という言葉だけは知っている、という人は多いのではないでしょうか。彼はF1の伝説的なエンジン・エンジニアです。1960年代初期にミニをチューンナップしてミニ クーパーを作り、さらにチューンを重ねたミニ クーパーSがモンテカルロラリーを3連覇しました。これにより世界に「クーパー」の名前が広まったのです。

そんな彼の会社（現在は息子さんが経営）がジョン・クーパー・ワークス（JCW)。今やミニのチューニングメーカーの代名詞ともいえる存在です。今回取り上げるジョン・クーパー・ワークス・チューニングキットは、もちろん彼の会社が手がけました。

しかもキット装着時にはエンジンオイルや冷却液等も交換されるなど、かなり本気です。<br />
そのほかアルミホイールやランフラットタイヤ、スポーツシート、リアウイングなども追加装備できました。<br />
新車時価格は、装備込みで単純計算しただけで、クーパーなら約266万円・クーパーSは約330万円。<br />
<br />
カーセンサーnetで探してみると、原稿を書いている時点では2台見つかりました。いずれもクーパーSベースで、価格は260万〜280万円。まったく値落ちしていないことがわかります。<br />
現行モデルよりもゴーカート気分が高い初代ニューミニの走りを、さらに楽しくしてくれるこのジョン・クーパー・ワークスキット。かわいいだけじゃなく、走ってもうれしくなる、そんな一台であることは間違いありません。<br />
