<!-- short sentence start -->1970年の初代登場以来、本格オフロード軽自動車として唯一無二の地位を築いてきたスズキジムニー。モデルチェンジのスパンが長いことでも有名で、3代目となる現行型（JB23型）は1998年に登場。10年以上も小改良を繰り返しながら販売され続けています。今回はそんなジムニーのなかから、ファッションデザイナーの山本寛斎氏がプロデュースした特別仕様車、スズキジムニーKANSAIをご紹介します。<!-- short sentence end --><br />

ジムニーは日本車のなかで最も個性的で、かつ最も日本車らしい車の一つといえるでしょう。軽自動車という日本独自の規格に適合し、さらに小型なボディにパートタイム4WDを組み合わせる細やかな作りはまさに日本車ならでは。1960年代以降に小型車が続々とモノコックボディ化されたなか、いまだにラダーフレームを採用していますし、サスペンションも独立懸架全盛の現在でも、商用車以外ではほとんど例を見ない車軸懸架（リジッドアクスル）を採用しています。<br />
<br />
そんな古典的な作りであるにもかかわらず（あるいは、古典的であるがゆえ？）、その人気は衰えることがありません。オフロードでの走行性能は小型車としてはトップクラスで、本格的な4WD走行を楽しみたい人の入門用として、はたまたダートを舞台としたレースでの競技車両としても人気を博しています。<br />

前述したようにジムニーはモデルスパンが長いのも特徴。初代が登場した1970年は、トヨタカローラでいえばちょうど2代目（E20型）が登場した年です。そのカローラは現在10代目ですから、40年間で9代が作られてきた計算。いまだ3代目であるジムニーのライフスパンがいかに長いものであるかがよくわかります。このモデルライフの長さが評価され、2008年にはグッドデザイン賞の特別賞を受賞。10年以上にわたって同一の商品コンセプトで継続的に生産販売されている商品等に与えられる「ロングライフデザイン賞」を獲得しました。<br />

この3代目ジムニーに初めて設定された特別仕様車が「KANSAI」。1999年6月に登場しました。新車時の販売価格は、5MTモデルが146万8000円、4ATモデルが156万6000円で、最上級グレードである「XC」がベース。ファッションデザイナーの山本寛斎氏が内外装を演出したファッション性の高いモデルで、ジムニーに機能性の高さだけでなく、オシャレな雰囲気を求めたい人にピッタリのモデルに仕上がっています。<br />

エクステリアには専用色を設定。砂漠を連想させる専用車体色のウィローグリーンと、サターンブラックメタリックの2色が用意されています。黒いボディカラーは通常生産モデルには設定がないため、希少な存在といえるでしょう。さらにフロントグリルネットやバンパー下のスキッドプレート、リアマッドフラップ（後輪の泥よけ）などが設定されています。スペアタイヤや側面などに描かれた専用のデカールも、独特なキャラクターを醸し出しています。<br />

内装はスポーティなデザイン。専用シート表皮やドアトリムクロスを採用したほか、本革巻きステアリングホイール、ホワイトメーターを標準装備。インパネの一部はカーボン調のデザインに変更されています。<br /><br />
原稿執筆時点でカーセンサーnetに掲載されている台数は8台。最高値は86万1000円、最安値は39万円でした。全体的に走行距離は多めで、安価な物件は10万kmを超えたものばかり。狙い目は50万円以上の物件といえそうです。カラーバリエーションはウィローグリーンとサターンブラックメタリックがちょうど半々でした。<br />

<p>第5位は日産サファリ(絶版)。残念ながらサファリは絶版になってしまいましたが、トヨタランドクルーザーに並ぶ国産最高峰SUVでした。直線基調の内外装は現行モデル当時には、ちょっと古臭いイメージが漂っていました。しかし、今となってはノスタルジックで無骨な雰囲気がオシャレ。こんな“男臭い”車、珍しい存在になっています。国連関係車両として僻地で活躍することからもわかるように、タフな車です。アウトドアのアクティビティにおいて頼もしい相棒となることでしょう。</p>
<p>第4位はスズキジムニー(現行)。小さいのに悪路走破性をしっかり確保した、スズキ渾身のスモールクロカンです。小さいのにしっかり走るから、ゴーカートに乗るようなワクワク感が味わえることでしょう。海に山に大活躍するに違いありません。サーフボードをルーフに載せて走る姿は、大きなSUVよりも小ささゆえにちょっと目立つかもしれません。きっと軽自動車に抱いていた思いが、変わるでしょう。女性が愛犬を乗せてMT車のジムニーを乗っていたら、カッコいいです。</p>
<p>第3位はアウディオールロードクワトロ(旧型)。定番中の定番でオススメしています。かつては高級車という位置づけでしたが、最近になって100万円台前半から狙えるようになっています。今後も下取り価格は下落しそうな勢いですから安めの物件を購入して、乗り潰す雰囲気でガンガンに使い倒せばオシャレです。言ってみればルイ・ヴィトンの高級鞄を、ジム通いに使うようなものです。アウトバーンをぶっ飛ばすことを前提に開発されていることから、走りは超一流です。</p>
<p>第2位はM・ベンツMクラス(旧型)。新車時は高い、という印象しかありませんでした。100万円ほどで狙えるM・ベンツのSUV、であることを考えればコストパフォーマンスは高いです。車にステータスを求めない時代と言われながらも、やっぱり“ベンツ”に乗ることで人の目は変わるものです。特にデートに誘う際、国産SUVにはない魅力が滲み出ます。前期型の車内は思いのほかチープな作り。だからこそ、活動的に使いこなしている雰囲気が漂うと乗っている人のポイントはアップします。</p>
<p>第1位は三菱パジェロ(現行)。走りは一流なのに、いつの間にか見向きもされないSUVとなってしまったように思います。現行型にもかかわらず、中古車は暴落気味ですから。裏を返せば、かなり狙い目だと言えます。使い倒すのがもったいないほどですが、不人気車ゆえに下取りは期待できません。だとしたら、徹底的にSUVらしく乗ってやればいいのです。サーフィン、スノボ、バーベキュー、どんなアウトドアにもぴったり。それでいてオンロードだって快適。いい選択肢です。<br>
